About Us
Home
The Post School of Highland Dance, Inc.started in Nebraska in late 2003. Our purpose is to provide an enjoyable way to experience and explore Scottish culture and history through dance. Members have the choice to perform, compete or just take classes.

We began with three dancers, and have since grown. As we have grown, the performance group has changed their name to the Midlands Highland Dancers. Dancers of MHD perform mostly in the state of Nebraska, but also include Western Iowa. Dancers also compete in the surrounding states of Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.

The MHD began a new Burns Night tradition with an interactive "Ode to the Haggis".  They have also performed at various functions, including the Strathdon Caledonia Pipe Band's Highland Outreach Program, annual recitals of their own and for Mildred Collins School of Dance, weddings, anniversary parties, Durham Museums Christmas at Union Station, Bellevue Worldfest!, Grand Island's Ethnic Festival, Fremont Days Festival, Celebrate Lincoln, and various St. Patrick's Day performances in Omaha and Lincoln at both senior living facilities and restaurants.  The dancers also fundraised and put on the Midlands Celtic Festival Highland Dance competition.  Dancers also run informational booths at Worldfest! and Durham each year to promote Scottish music and dancing.

Shayna is the instructor for the dance school and has over twenty years of dance experience, of which seventeen have been in Highland Dancing. Shayna competed at various competitions in western Canada, Washington, Utah and Colorado when she was a teenager and into college. Shayna received her first teaching certification in 1995 as an Associate in the Highland branch of the British Association of Teachers of Dance, and has since earned her Fellowship in Highland Dancing and Members in Scottish National Dancing. She helped form the Scottish Americans group at Boise State University, formed the Treasure Valley Highland Dancers in Boise, ID, and helped organize the dance competition for the Treasure Valley Highland Games from 1999 to 2001. Shayna taught for five years in Idaho and has been in Nebraska since 2002. Shayna is the director of the MHD and instructor for the Post School of Highland Dance, Inc. Shayna is also currently studying for the SOBHD Judges exam. During the day, Shayna works as a Certified Public Accountant in Omaha, NE.

Devin Post has been a strong supporter and advocate of Highland Dancing since before he married Shayna. He has helped at many competitions in support services, stepped in at dance classes, and driven around swords, music, and even dancers and Judges. He also designs and maintains the web site.   Currently Devin is a student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
